Went to Texas just to get warm! Just kidding. I really went down to go to South Central McGown Teachers Workshop held at the Prothro Center in Pottsboro.
The weather was wonderful and to think it was snowing here in Denver. Not sorry that I missed that.

Look at the wonderfully neat way that another camp attendee, Martha Lowry, finishes her rugs! Wow! She is so amazing. I have posted other photos from the workshop rug show on my Photos page.

Martha also showed a finishing technique that is done by sewing a 3" strip of wool to the back of your rug. Then you roll the backing to the front, bring the wool strip forward to cover the backing,  and finish by stitching in the ditch that is created between the wool strip and your hooking. Here is a photo of this nice looking finish:

Sheri Matz and I drive to Texas together each year to go to this workshop. She knits almost the whole way and I drive. She is really fast with those needles and can get a pair of socks done on the trip. Her furbaby Susie comes along with us, but she stays with a friend while we go to camp. . . (no dogs allowed at camp).

It would appear that fall just skipped Golden this year and we went straight from summer into Winter! The leaves are still on most of the trees, so the snow covered orange and gold leaves are lovely against a grey sky! OK! So it is no blizzard. . . . . but still — Brrrr!

Getting ready to make a trip to Pottsboro, TX to the beautiful Prothro Center for McGown Teachers Workshop! This year I am teaching a Panda Pattern. . . . . and instead of just concentrating on hooking that we will be exploring another surprise option! Stay tuned for details and photos!

If you LOVE to hook and have never explored the option of McGown Teachers workshop. . . . you really ought to consider it! You will meet tons of very creative and talented teachers and you learn SO much! I love it! AND, One of the BEST facilities is the Prothro center right outside of Pottsboro, TX. . . and right on Lake Texoma. The scenery is gorgeous! A flock of wild turkeys entertain us as they are always to be seen on the grounds several times a day. (Actually they are so darn big - the birds - that their group ought to be called a herd!)
For more information, please contact the camp Director, Karen Casten.
